What is the CA M15A4 Rifle
The CA M15A4 Rifle is a replica of the standard issue US M16 Rifle. Although it is designated the A4 variant, it is unlike the US M16A4 in that it offers only semi and fully automatic fire. The M16A4 uses a 3-round burst. The CA does include the A4's removable handle.
The CA very closely follows the pattern of the "real steal" version in everything, down to the nearly real weight. It is less than 1lb lighter. One of the reasons I chose the CA is because of the metal body and single piece outer barrel that is standard. The 'standard" in the airsoft industry are weapons made by Tokyo Mauri (of which I have their M4 variant.) Most people replace the TM's plastic body, 2-piece barrel and gear-box internals to the tune of a few hundred dollars. Why buy something just to upgrade it to where I can buy new for nearly the same price! The CA is also a licensee of ArmaLite and so the trademarks do not need to be destroyed upon entry into the US.
Future planned modifications are to convert this to a SR25 style of weopon, or squad designated marksman. This would be below the level of a sniper. To fulfill this I plan on making the following mods:
Front End
The major part of the conversion will come in the front end. This is what makes and breaks it. Classic Army has come out with some front ends that are exactly what I'm looking for. One includes the full length RIS (standard rails on top, bottom, left and right) and a thick outer barrel to match the match-grade barrel of the SR25 rifle. It also comes with a few accessories including the flip-up front sight. This mod from CA looks the part!
Scope
I'm looking to purchase a new scope for the mod. The current scope was given to me by a friend after I first got the M4. It is an NCStar iliminated (red or green) unit that is specifically designed to be fitted to the M16/M4 carry handle. I plan on purchasing a new sight that has either an integrated rail mount, or mounts vie rings that attach to the standard rail. The scope will be at least a 4x, probably even a 4-12x or so. Not too big, but big enough. I use it mainly to find the guys hiding in the bushes.
Bi-pod
Just to finish out the "reach out and touch someone" look is a bi-pod. We'll see.
